Privacy policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This English text is a courtesy translation. The German version is the legally binding one. Smartigo has not been released yet. The section on the app describes how it works at the current stage of development and will be checked again against the finished app before launch.
1. Who we are
The controller is Mintlane, owner Stefan Hirche, Im Bodesfeld 59, 51147 Cologne, Germany. Contact: hello@mintlane.io. Mintlane is an independent app studio. You can find our general privacy policy for mintlane.io and our other apps here.
2. Our principle
Smartigo is built to work without an account, without a login and without a server of our own. Your data stays on your device unless you decide otherwise. We do not create user profiles, we do not sell data, and we do not show advertising that relies on tracking.
3. This website
These pages set no cookies, load no fonts, scripts or images from third parties, and contain no forms you would have to enter data into. All fonts and images are delivered from our own server.
When you open a page, our hosting server processes technically necessary connection data (for example IP address, time, requested file) to deliver the page and to defend against abuse. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation). These pages currently load no measurement scripts.
If you email us, we process your address and your message in order to answer it (Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR). We delete them once the matter is settled and no retention obligation applies.
4. The Smartigo app
4.1 Data on your device
Your name (if you enter one), your character, your progress, your results and your settings are stored only in an encrypted database on your device. They are not transmitted to us or to third parties. There is no Smartigo account.
4.2 Crash reports (optional)
Smartigo can send error reports through Google Firebase Crashlytics when it crashes. This feature is off by default, also at the operating system level, and only becomes active if you turn on "Send crash reports" under "Privacy" in the settings. A report contains technical information (location of the error, app version, device manufacturer and model, operating system version) and a random installation identifier, but no learning results. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time in the settings (fully effective after the next app start). The recipient is Google LLC, USA, on the basis of EU standard contractual clauses.
4.3 Purchases
Optional in-app purchases are handled exclusively by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We only receive the information whether a valid purchase exists, no payment data.
4.4 Permissions
- Notifications (optional): for your daily reminder. They are scheduled locally on the device, not through a server.
- Step count via Apple Health / Health Connect (optional): if you allow it, the app reads only your step count for today, read-only, and only on your device. It is not transmitted. You can withdraw access at any time in the system settings.
- Read-aloud (optional): uses your device's speech output. No text is sent to us.
4.5 Backup (optional)
If you turn on the backup, Smartigo writes an encrypted backup file so that your progress survives a reinstall or a new device. You choose a backup password for it (at least 6 digits); the file is encrypted with it (AES-256-GCM) before it is written. We never receive the password and cannot read the file. On Android the file is stored in the Download/Smartigo folder of your device, on iPhone and iPad in your own iCloud Drive (or on the device if iCloud is not available). That is your own storage, not a server of ours. The files are not removed when you delete your data or uninstall the app; you do that yourself in the Files app.
4.6 Sharing and export
When you share a result or export your data, this happens through your operating system's share menu. What you select there and who receives it is up to you. We do not see it.
5. Children
Smartigo is meant for all age groups, including children. The same applies to children as to everyone: no account, no ads, no sharing of data. Purchases are additionally protected by an adult check (a short arithmetic task).
6. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future. Since we do not store the data from the app on our side, the easiest way to delete it is to uninstall the app. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia.
7. Changes
If the app or the legal situation changes, we will adapt this policy. The date above shows when that last happened.
