Not every medication reminder needs to feel like an alarm clock
Some medications genuinely need a hard, exact-minute alert. Many others are "sometime in the morning" medications, and treating both the same way wears out trust in the reminder. Medifix is adding a second, softer reminder style built around a time-of-day window, alongside the existing exact-time alarm.
The problem: one reminder style for two different kinds of medication
Medifix's reminders are deliberately built to go off like an alarm clock: loud, hard to miss, and unaffected by silent mode or Do Not Disturb. That's exactly right for medication with a narrow window, where a missed dose actually matters minute to minute.
But a lot of medication isn't like that. A daily vitamin. A supplement. A "once in the morning, once in the evening" prescription where taking it forty minutes later changes nothing. Giving that kind of medication the same alarm-clock urgency as a time-critical one doesn't make it safer — it just trains people to hear the reminder as noise. And once dismissing a reminder becomes a habit, it doesn't stay neatly confined to the medications where it was harmless.
What's changing: a second, softer reminder style
Alongside the existing exact-time reminder, Medifix is introducing a flexible option built around a time-of-day window — morning, midday, afternoon, evening — so medication that just needs "sometime today" is treated that way, rather than pinned to a single trigger minute it was never actually tied to.
The reminder still shows up, and it still follows up if nothing gets logged. What changes is the framing: a soft daily routine doesn't get treated like a hard deadline. Anyone who genuinely needs a fixed minute keeps today's exact-time behavior, unchanged, for that medication.
Why this is a per-medication choice, not a global setting
Most households mix both kinds of medication, so this isn't an app-wide switch. It's set individually when a medication is added, which means a precise 8am alarm for one prescription and a flexible morning window for a daily supplement can sit side by side without either one compromising the other.
What that looks like in practice
- Choose a flexible time-of-day window or a precise exact time, per medication.
- Flexible reminders still follow up if nothing is logged, without treating a routine as a deadline.
- Precise mode keeps today's alarm-clock reliability, unchanged, for medication that needs it.
- Nothing about an existing medication changes on its own — the option is there when it fits.
