Postponing a dose should not be the same as skipping it
Today, a due dose in Medifix is either taken or skipped. Neither fits "not right now, but soon." Medifix is adding a real postpone action that keeps a dose honestly pending, and tightening the link between an early intake and its matching reminder so it doesn't fire again later.
The problem: only two honest answers, and neither one fits
When a reminder fires, marking it in Medifix is binary right now: taken, or skipped. Most of the time that's fine. But sometimes neither is true. You're in a meeting, on the road, mid-task, and you will take it in twenty minutes — not never. Recording that as "skipped" isn't accurate, and over weeks it can make adherence look worse than it is. Ignoring the reminder and hoping to remember later is exactly the failure mode a reminder exists to prevent.
There's a related friction on the other side of the same problem: if a dose gets taken a little ahead of its scheduled time, the original reminder can still go off later as if nothing happened. That reads as the app not noticing what you already did, which is its own kind of trust erosion.
What's changing: a real "later" option
Medifix is adding a third, honest choice next to Taken and Skip: postpone. Choosing it keeps the dose marked as pending, not skipped, and reschedules a follow-up a short while later instead of dropping it entirely. It'll be available both from the reminder itself and directly in the app, on the due-dose card, so nothing has to leave the lock screen to be logged accurately.
Alongside it, Medifix is tightening the connection between an early intake and its matching reminder, so logging a dose ahead of schedule reliably cancels that occurrence's later alert instead of leaving it to fire regardless.
Why this matters beyond convenience
A reminder someone stops trusting is worse than no reminder at all — it gets dismissed out of habit, including the times it actually matters. An honest "later" keeps the record accurate and keeps someone actually engaging with the reminder, instead of training themselves to swipe it away.
What that looks like in practice
- A due dose can be marked Taken, Skipped, or Later — not just the first two.
- Later keeps the dose open and reschedules a nearer follow-up, instead of counting it as missed.
- Taking a dose early reliably cancels that occurrence's later reminder.
- Available both from the reminder itself and directly in the app.
